Francis Ford Coppola's long-awaited passion project, George Miller's latest "Mad Max" movie, and Sebastian Stan's version of Donald Trump are all headed to the Cannes Film Festival.
The official lineup for the 2024 Cannes Film Festival was unveiled Thursday, and "The Apprentice," a drama starring Sebastian Stan as Trump and Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn, is among the films set to play in competition.
Also playing in competition will be "Megalopolis," Francis Ford Coppola's self-funded epic starring Adam Driver, and "Kinds of Kindness," director Yorgos Lanthimos' follow-up to "Poor Things." Emma Stone once again stars in "Kinds of Kindness" after winning the best actress Oscar for "Poor Things," and the rest of the stacked cast includes Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Joe Alwyn and Hunter Schafer.
The Cannes lineup also includes "Bird," a drama from Andrea Arnold starring "Saltburn" actor Barry Keoghan; Jacques Audiard's "Emilia Perez" starring Selena Gomez; Sean Baker's "Anora" starring Mikey Madison; David Cronenberg's "The Shrouds" starring Vincent Cassel; Coralie Fargeat's "The Substance" starring Margaret Qualley and Demi Moore; and Paul Schrader's "Oh Canada," starring Jacob Elordi and Richard Gere.
Meanwhile, Miller's highly anticipated "Mad Max: Fury Road" prequel "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" will be playing out of competition, as "Fury Road" did in 2015. Kevin Costner's western "Horizon: An American Saga" is also playing out of competition.

Cannes' opening film will be "The Second Act" starring Léa Seydoux.
All eyes will be on Cannes to provide a boost to some of this year's Oscar hopefuls. Coppola's "Megalopolis" is also highly anticipated, as the acclaimed "Godfather" director has talked about making the project for decades and spent a reported $120 million of his own money to finance it. "I couldn't care less about the financial impact whatsoever," he told GQ in 2022. "It means nothing to me."

"Star Wars" creator George Lucas is also set to receive an honorary Palme d'Or at this year's festival. "I am truly honored by this special recognition which means a great deal to me," Lucas said.
Last year's Cannes Film Festival saw "Anatomy of a Fall" win the top prize of the Palme d'Or before going on to win the Oscar for best original screenplay. The festival also saw the premieres of Oscar nominees or winners like "The Zone of Interest," "May December," "Asteroid City" and "Killers of the Flower Moon."
When is Cannes Film Festival?
The 2024 Cannes Film Festival will kick off on May 14.
